Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering, is the division of engineering that designs, tests, and supervises the manufacture and science of aircraft, spacecraft, and missiles. Those who work with aircraft are called aeronautical engineers, (the craft that stay within Earth’s atmosphere); and those working specifically with spacecraft are astronautical engineers, (the craft that operate outside of Earth’s atmosphere.)

These engineers, had developed; and develops the new technologies for aviation, the missile defense systems, and space exploration. The engineering that is done in the aerospace industry, is not conducted by one engineer; it is a team of engineers, each specializing in their own branches of science. The development and manufacturing of aircraft, is extremely complex and requires a balance between abilities, design, available technology and costs.

Aircraft of what ever nature, undergo severe conditions such as differences in atmospheric pressure and temperature, which applies structural loads on the various components of the craft. Consequently, the technologies and science that goes into the finished aviation product is the result of these various technologies; aerodynamics, avionics, materials science and propulsion, collectively they are aerospace engineering.

Aeronautical engineering was the original term used when discussing aviation. However, with-in the broader scope of flight/space engineering, aerospace has emerged as the proper descriptive of aerospace engineering. Just as the fields have merged and expanded so have the various technologies and engineering jobs.

Engineers, will now specialize in areas such as structural design, guidance, navigation and control, instrumentation and communication, and production methods. Likewise, because of the complexities of each type of aerospace products; the engineers will usually specialize in one of the following: commercial aircraft, military fighter jets, helicopters, spacecraft, or missiles and rockets, thus becoming experts in aerodynamics, thermodynamics, celestial mechanics, propulsion, acoustics, or guidance and control systems; in their given field.

Aerospace engineers, come in a variety of sizes and shapes including what they may be called; here are some of the titles associated with this group that work with in the aviation and aerospace, industry: Aerospace Engineer, Flight Test Engineer, Design Engineer, Systems Engineer, Structures Engineer, Test Engineer, Aeronautical Engineer, Aerospace Stress Engineer, Avionics Engineer, Flight Systems Test Engineer. And. They will perform a variety of aviation jobs, in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft.

The aerospace engineering industry and the engineers who fill these positions will need to have skills and abilities to implement these procedures into their regimen. Practical application of engineering science and technology, this would include applying the principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and manufacture of aerospace products. Have knowledge of design techniques, and how to utilize the tools and principles for production.

A complete understanding of the technical plans, laid out in blueprints, drawings, and models. Understand the laws of physics, and how the prediction of physical principles work, their interrelationships, and applications to fluids, material, atmospheric dynamics, and the mechanical, electrical, structures and processes.

 

A must for anyone employed in the aerospace engineering industry are the following:

A complete knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. A working knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance; Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and rogramming. A through understanding of the raw materials used in the production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing, apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense, to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences, to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand, to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem. Use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information. Keeping up-to-date technically and applying the knowledge and procedures to your job.

Aerospace engineering, and the aviation jobs created are in good shape in the foreseeable future. Aerospace jobs, are expected to have about a 10% growth in the job market over the next decade. The new technologies and designs for commercial and military aircraft along with spacecraft should spur demand for more aerospace engineers.
