Construction Equipment, Machinery, Equipment Rental and Equipment
Construction equipment, consists of all the different types of machinery. The most commonly used pieces of equipment are the truck, and trailer. Another very versatile piece of equipment is the crane, the smaller units are usually mobile either a self contained unit on rubber tires, or they are mounted on a truck; the other small cranes are built on a steel tracked self contained chassis.
The larger forms of cranes are non mobile, and are brought to the site and assembled, once the project has been completed they are dis-assembled and trucked to the next construction site.
Heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, skid loaders, tractors and trenchers, are all necessary to complete certain jobs, but not necessary to own and have as idle overhead. That is why the equipment rental industry started and flourishes today.
Equipment rental, solves many needs through out the construction industry; all you need to do, is, truck the equipment in, complete the desired task and truck it back to the rental company.
More and more with the costs of equipment escalating, the buying and selling of used equipment has become the norm for many companies. Companies today trying to get established in the industry have turned to purchasing used equipment, and the equipment rental route to stay competitive.
Over the years all equipment has gone through many changes from the size and ease of use, to utilizing all the most advanced technology on the market today. Today’s most advanced heavy equipment, utilizes GPS (Global Positioning Systems) to help the operator in his daily tasks of using that particular machinery. GPS for example is found on dozers, cranes, backhoes, trenching machines, and in the trucks that move materials and or, that haul the pieces of equipment from job site to job site.
Construction equipment is not limited to just the big machines, or heavy equipment. It also includes the smaller, but very necessary; generators, pumps, scaffolding, and lifts found on almost any job site in the construction world.
Once again equipment rental, plays a big part in the smaller types of construction equipment. It is so much easier for companies (large and small) to rent the machinery that they need than it is to own them.
So the next time you hear the words construction equipment you must always keep in mind it could be something as simple as a generator or as big as a 200 foot tower crane.
As always my bulldozing, backhoe operating, truck hauling friends, until we meet again, keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down.
